Discover the heritage of one of the oldest cities in the Caribbean and follow in the footsteps of Christopher Columbus with this excursion to Santo Domingo. Itinerary At the agreed time, you will be picked up from your hotel in Punta Cana and depart for Santo Domingo. First, after meeting your guide, you will visit the spectacular Los Tres Ojos cave to see the famous freshwater lakes and its incredible cavern. Do they hide a secret? You will find out! Then, you will approach the Columbus Lighthouse, where the famous explorer is said to rest. The next stop will be the Presidential Palace. You will observe this large-scale neoclassical architectural complex from the outside and continue your visit through the city's historic center, the magnificent Colonial Zone of Santo Domingo! You will enter the Cathedral of Santa María de La Encarnación, the first cathedral in America and the oldest on the continent, to discover its hidden secrets. You will travel back in time walking along Calle de las Damas, where you will see the first stone house built in the New World. You will visit the interior of the National Pantheon where the remains of illustrious historical figures of the Dominican Republic rest. You will continue walking to Plaza de España to see its beautiful terraces, offering an impressive view of the Ozama River. On this esplanade stands the famous Alcazar de Colon, the former residence of the Admiral, and you won't be able to stop yourself from taking photos when you visit its interior! You will then head to a restaurant in the historic center, where you will recharge with a delicious buffet lunch consisting of typical dishes such as rice, meat stews and beans. The menu also includes soft drinks. After recharging, you will head to the Malecón area to enjoy a superb view of the Caribbean Sea. Finally, you will be driven back to your hotel, with arrival scheduled between nine and eleven-thirty hours after pick-up. Temporary Closures The Alcázar de Colón is closed on Mondays. On this day, you will take a panoramic tour of the exterior. If the Alcazar is closed on other days, this part of the tour will be replaced by a visit to the Museum of the Royal Houses, one of the cultural monuments of Dominican history. Furthermore, some museums are closed on Mondays for maintenance. In this case, you will only be able to see the exterior. How does it work? During this excursion, you will follow a detailed itinerary to discover Santo Domingo. Starting from your hotel, you will set out to explore major historical sites with a guide. Buffet lunch is included, as is access to the main attractions. Note that the Alcázar de Colon is closed on certain days, but the tour will then be adapted.
