Reach the summit of Gros Piton on a guided hike with pickup from selected St. Lucia hotels. Discover the flora and fauna and enjoy breathtaking views as you climb the steep trail to the top. It's just a 4-mile walk on St. Lucia's tree-covered symbol—a winding trail that climbs the steep, rainforest-covered slopes of a 2,619-foot volcanic mountain. Periodically, the trees give way to breathtaking panoramas of the emerald-green island and the bright blue Caribbean waters. Guides are mandatory but full of knowledge. The caves once used as shelters by Brigand War freedom fighters, brightly colored tropical birds, and lush vegetation including giant gommier trees (used to make canoes), the smaller swizzlestick tree (used to make swizzle sticks), and 'peeling tourists'—trees with flaky brown bark that looks painfully familiar to anyone who has fallen asleep on the beach without sunscreen. This tour runs rain or shine.
