You will discover the main sites and uncover the secrets of the colonial past by bus, train, and on foot during this guided tour with an expert guide. You start at Independence Park and continue toward the maze of cobblestone streets in the old city. You will see heritage sites dating back to the 15th century and visit the Gothic Cathedral of Santa Maria and the Alcazar de Colon, which belonged to Christopher Columbus's family. Luis, one of our local guides, explains: "Columbus is not a hero to us. He murdered many indigenous Tainos, brought African slaves with him, and stole all the gold he could find." You will learn more about the island's complex history with a 4D cinema experience recounting the capture of the city in 1586. You will visit the Colonial Zone by small train before stopping for lunch. Expect traditional Dominican dishes in a family restaurant. The day continues with a walk along Calle de las Damas, site of the Pantheon and Ozama Fort, and ends with free time for shopping or exploring on your own.
