Disembark from your cruise ship and be picked up directly at the port to go to the railway station. Board the famous St. Kitts Scenic Railway, originally built between 1912 and 1926 to transport sugar cane from the fields to the sugar factory in Basseterre. Enjoy sugar cake (a local specialty), fruit punch, and daiquiris while admiring the local scenery. Travel along the northeast coast of the island to discover spectacular views of the ocean, surf, cliffs, and the lush vegetation that surrounds you. Cross large steel bridges spanning deep canyons and make your way through small villages and farms. You will see dark green tropical forests bordered by waving fields of sugar cane, with the volcanic cone of Mount Liamuiga rising above the tracks. Let your guide point out all the sights as the train passes old sugar estates with abandoned windmills and chimneys. The 18 miles by train and 12 miles by bus make a complete 30-mile loop around the island. The journey takes about 2 hours by train and 45 minutes by bus. Keep in mind that the tour can run in reverse, starting with the bus tour followed by the train tour.
