The Island of Enchantment
Puerto Rico, officially the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, is a Caribbean island and unincorporated U.S. territory known for its rich history, vibrant culture, and diverse natural landscapes. The island offers a unique blend of Spanish colonial heritage and modern American influence, evident in its architecture, cuisine, and way of life. San Juan, the capital, features colorful Spanish colonial buildings and massive fortifications like El Morro and La Fortaleza, which date back to the 16th century. Beyond the historic cities, Puerto Rico boasts incredible natural wonders, including El Yunque National Forest, the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. National Forest System, and three of the world's five bioluminescent bays. The island's culture is a vibrant mix of Spanish, African, and Taíno influences, expressed through its music (salsa, bomba, plena), art, festivals, and cuisine. Puerto Ricans, known as Boricuas, are known for their warmth, resilience, and strong sense of identity and pride in their island.
